Parent School Climate Survey

The OCDSB is seeking parental input through a School Climate Survey to help assist the Board in developing strategies to prevent bullying and to promote safe and inclusive schools for all students.  You should have received an email with an attachment that has a link and a user code to access the survey. and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. The parent survey will be open for participation from June 1-15, 2016. Please complete your survey as soon as possible.  This is your opportunity to share your thoughts, ideas and concerns about your child’s school and the education they are receiving.

OUR SCHOOL-School Climate Survey

Soon the OCDSB will be sending all parents an invitation to participate in a School Climate survey, conducted every two years. This survey has approximately 80 short questions around bullying, school safety and student engagement in your school. These reports are made available to the school and school council and will provide insight into the kind of school environment students are experiencing, as told by parents. You will receive a letter home with your child with the code to access the survey. If you do not receive it, contact your child’s teacher right away. The survey will only be open from June 1 to June 15. For more information visit the information page on the OCDSB website.

Secondary School Review – feedback opportunity

Six years ago the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) undertook an extensive program review at the secondary level. Seven subcommittees were formed to study various aspects of high school education in the OCDSB. The committees have wrapped up their work and have made some ‘draft’ recommendations. Now it is time for consultation with our entire community: staff, students and parents.

Please review the summary sheet of those recommendations along with a sheet, complete with hyperlinks, outlining the process for feedback. Links to these documents are listed below. Please also visit the Board’s website to engage in this process as we look forward to hearing from all stakeholders.

Parent Conference: Bridging Home and School

Dr. Peg Dawson Ed.D co-author of Smart but Scattered was a keynote speaker at a recent Parent Conference hosted by the OCDSB. Dr. Dawson has worked with thousands of children who struggle at home and in school. At the centre of their struggles are poor planning and organizational skills. She offers parents tools – an essential ‘how to manual’ to help kids get organized, stay focused and control their impulses. The Conference had a number of other interesting workshops such as: How to Help my Child Succeed Academically / Managing Emotions when Dealing with Kids / What is an IEP-Individual Education Plan/ IPRC-Identification, Placement and Review Committee? Understanding and Navigating the Process and many more.
