As many of you may know, the Ottawa Carleton District School Board recently conducted consultations on changes it proposed to make to French Instruction for JK/SK and Grades 1, 2 & 3 EFI. The results of the consultation indicated that a significant number of parents and teachers had concerns about the changes, which included: the reasons behind the proposal, the lack of input from educators prior to submitting the proposal, the lack of adequate consultation (less than one month) for stakeholders to review, investigate and respond; and, the lack of evidence and research provided to support this proposal.
After a meeting of the Committee of the Whole last night (November 17), the Board has decided to delay pursuit of this proposal noting especially the concerns about insufficient consultations and lack of evidence supporting the proposed changes. See the CBC news article.
