The OCDSB is considering and consulting on changes to French-language instruction for the JK and SK programs starting 2016-2017. There is a small window for parents to have a say in these changes, majority of which will impact Lakeview as an EFI site. Some of the proposed changes include:

  • moving to a 50/50 French-English instruction for both JK and SK (in both the English and Early French Immersion (EFI) programs);
  • addition of 60-minutes of English instruction for Grade 1 EFI;
  • changing Math instruction to English (instead of French) for Primary EFI (Gr. 1-3) programs; and
  • staffing changes potentially with a decrease of 101 English Full-time equivalent (FTE) teachers and a gain of 95 FTE French-Second Language (FSL) teachers

This proposed policy will also be discussed at Lakeview Council’s upcoming meeting on Tuesday, October 13. If you have questions or concerns about the impacts on our school, students and staff, we encourage you to come to this meeting.
