Parent Workshop: The Math Guru on May 19

As a result of receiving a “Parent Reaching Out” Grant, our School Council (along with councils from Roland Michener PS and Rockcliffe Park PS) has been able to schedule a parent workshop about math. Please see details below:

How to Raise Kids Who Aren’t Afraid of Math (Even If You Are)!
Speaker: Vanessa The Math Guru
Date: Thursday, May 19, 2022
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The Math Guru was founded in 2010 by Vanessa Vakharia, a certified high school math teacher with a Masters in Mathematics Education. Vanessa used to hate math. In fact, she failed grade 11 math twice (twice!) and decided she was simply not a “math person.” Then she changed schools. She decided to brave another math course with an open mind. This is when she realized: There is no such thing as a “math person.” Click on this link to learn more about Vanessa The Math Guru.

Each school has a limit of 50 participants. Sign up now by clicking this link to join us in numeracy learning. A Google Meet invite will be sent to you by 5:00 pm on 19 May.

This year, we're raising money with Plantables. Spread the word.

Our Plantables fundraiser is back! Order now for Spring!

We’re very excited to announce that we’ve chosen to be a part of the Plantables School Fundraising Program for 2022. Every plant you buy helps us get closer to that goal. (We get 10% of the total of every order you place.) Last year, many families had plants delivered to their door, we would love to help you with your garden as well!

Who are Plantables?

Plantables is an exciting new startup based in Forest, Ontario that grows healthy, hardy and happy fruit and vegetable plants and ships them to arrive at your door exactly when they need to go into the ground. That means that no matter how busy you are, or how many little hands want to help out, you’ll be able to grow brag-worthy fruits and veggies in no time. All you have to do is pick what plants you want to grow, choose when you want them delivered and wait for your box of garden-ready plants to arrive on your doorstep.

How does the program work?

All you have to do is tell everybody you know to go to plantables.ca/for/lakeview to buy garden-ready fruit and vegetable plants.

We’re really excited to be launching a fundraiser that involves growing healthy fruits and veggies and spending time as a family instead of selling unhealthy snacks door-to-door, and we can’t wait to see how much we all can raise.
